Football Sunday

Sunday, September 12th, 2010

Had to get up at 5am today to get the kids off to their Pop Warner football game in San Francisco. Good job that my son won his game and my daughter cheered like a champ.

Unfortunately the same could not be said for the 49ers….for the first 20 minutes they appeared to be cruising and then the wheels came off.

This was on top of Man Utd giving up two late goals to draw with Everton and the SF Giants losing to the Padres (they redeemed themselves today though).

What a great time of year for sports….Baseball playoff race, NFL started, Premier League started and the Ryder Cup coming up. This next month is the best month of the year for sports.

It could be worse…

After MRI and X-Ray, the diagnosis was that I have badly damaged tendons in my ankle….but a damaged achilles is a whole lot better than a torn achilles so I’m pretty happy (1 month versus 6 months recovery).

This weekend I’m being told to do nothing and keep weight off my foot. On Monday, I have to go back and get either a boot or a cast fitted.

This kinda sucks given that I’ve got a lot of travel planned over the next few weeks. I’m meant to be in Vegas on Tuesday onwards for the Tier1 Hosting Summit…have about 8 individual meetings scheduled and I’m also speaking on a panel.

I think I’m OK to fly with a cast right? Never done it before but seems OK.

The following week I’m meant to be in Europe……

A good ole Silicon Valley brawl

Comments heard at the XYZ Bar

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Prospective Nimsoft service provider customer:

“It was so easy to select you as the preferred solution, you were the only vendor that didn’t hide under the table when we questioned you about our requirements. Clearly you understand the unique challenges of service providers.”

Another prospective Nimsoft customer:

“In all my years in this business, the meeting that you did for our team was the single best executed vendor meeting I have ever been to.”

A MSP CEO:

“I don’t know who designed your sales process, but it’s by far the best that I’ve ever experienced”

CEO of a Cloud startup

“Your reputation speaks for itself. Anyone that has Rackspace & Softlayer as customers has already won me over. They are so technically smart that they are difficult organizations to please”

Division head in a large enterprise

“I came to VMWorld to look for a monitoring solution, I think I’ve just finished my search”

Various…

“You guys know how to throw a party…thank you!”

Feel free to add your own quotes from the conversations that took place. Two good fun nights.
